Sage's Story

Sage's China

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I questioned myself on if I wanted to share Sage's story.  Some say it is her story, and not mine to share.  But after prayer,  have decided that it is so much more than her story.  It is God's story and it was all part of His plan in bringing my daughter home to me.   It is a story of hope.  And with all my heart I believe a story of love from one mother to another.  Chen Yi Qiaos birthmother found a place for her that she would be safe and where she would be found.  So that she could become my Sage.  This is the only information we will ever know about our daughters past.  It is so little, and yet it is her story.  The story of my daughter.

Chen Yi Qiao’s Growth Report

Chen Yi Qiao, a girl, was abandoned on November 28, 2005 in the Public Security Division of the No. 1 People’s Hospital of Chenzhou City .   Mr. Li Bo, a passer-by, found her and picked up her.  Upon found, the infant wore a red hat knitted with yarn and a pink cotton-padded outfit, wrapped in a red cotton skirt. Immediately this case was reported to the local police station.  The police from the Yanquan Police Station made an investigation to locate the child’s birth parents, however they failed.   It was confirmed that this was an abandoned child, on the same day, the police sent her to our Institute for foster care.

Upon her arrival, our doctor gave her a physical examination.   She was reported to be normal with a good physical development and with medium- level nutritious status.  She was 45cm tall and weighed 2.8 kg.  Her head circumference was 33cm and her chest measurement was 31 cm. Her foot length was 7 cm.  Based on her physical status, the doctors estimated the date of her birth to be on November 20, 2005.  Our staff named her Chen Yi Qiao.   ‘Chen’ represents the Chen Zhou City, where she was found.  ‘Yi Qiao’ carries our sincere hope that she will be blessed and have a much better live.  We wished her to be encountered with great people who would help her gain her happiness and auspicious.

On the second day she came to our Institute, she began to have physiologic jaundice on her skin.  On the sixth day, her umbilical cord came off.   On the eighth day, her physiologic jaundice disappeared, and her skin turned out to be smooth and florid.

At one month old, Yi Qiao always had a steady sleep.  She spent most of her time sleeping every day.  After she woke, she preferred to look in the direction where a light came.  When someone held her and talked to her and felt her, she was able to focus her eyesight on the person’s face.  She is sensitive, and cried with a loud sound if she was hungry or wet.  She quieted down when her caretaker began to feed her or when she had her diaper changed.  She had normal appetite.

At two months old, Yi Qiao was able to gaze at the person who came to her bed and used her name.  She was able to follow a moving object by moving her head and her eyesight from one side to the other.  When her caretaker felt her and amused her, she naturally gave out smiles.

At three months old, she was interested in her little hands.  She frequently raised her right hand to her eyes level and looked at it, which was really lovely!  Placed on her stomach, she was able to lift her head.  She immediately stopped crying if someone came to hold her.

Currently she is four months old.  She is fair and chubby.  If a person holds her and talks to her, she also ‘talks’ giving responses with her bubbling.  She loves to look at the objects with bright colors.  Every time when we hold her to look at the pictures on the wall, she is always very focused on watching them.

She has followed a good daily routine. She gets up at 6:30 am and goes to bed at 7:00 pm.   She takes a nap in the morning and in the afternoon.   Her nap lasts for an hour or so.   She eats six times a day: at 5:00 am, 8:00 am, 11:00 am, 4:00 pm, 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm.  Her main food is the mixture made from the powdered milk and a small amount of rice powder and some bean powder.  She consumes approximately 160 milliliters of her food each meal.  At 9:30 am, she is provided with some egg yolk, applesauce or fruit juice.   She has her bowel movements once or twice a day.  She wears a diaper.

She is also provided with mineral supplements and multi-vitamins to meet the needs of her growth.

She is update on her immunizations.
